Hypothetical Coffee Roasting Company started as a question more than a plan: what if the work I did with my hands mattered as much as the work I did with my mind?
I've spent over a decade in building automation, writing code, designing systems, solving problems that most people never see. It's meaningful work. But it moves fast, and it rewards speed. Roasting doesn't. You measure time in hours and days, not seconds. You learn to read something that isn't a dashboard; heat, color, smell, sound. You get feedback slowly, and you adjust slowly, and somewhere in that process you start to remember what it feels like to be patient.
That's what this is about.
The roasting is its own education; a 500-gram batch at a time, learning a craft that takes years to get honest about. Nothing is hidden. There's no shortcut that doesn't show up in the cup.
Hypothetical is an honest name. It holds the future lightly. It says: this is real, and it's still becoming. The long version of this story ends in a small cafe, a place built around slowing down, around good conversation, around the kind of presence that most of us forget to practice. But that's ten years away, and that's okay.
Right now, it's a roaster and a small batch and the particular satisfaction of making something with your hands that you can actually drink.
